5 MMA Workouts Without Any Equipment

Most MMA training you may need equipment or a partner. There are some MMA workouts you can do at home with no equipment that can really help you physically. These body weight MMA exercises are great tools to learn because you can do them virtually anywhere. They can be done in a circuit or individually depending on the cardiovascular result you are looking for. These body weight MMA workouts are good for anyone at any skill level.

It is usually a good idea to do a light stretch and warm up before to get the blood circulating and your body prepared.

Squats – Squats are great for MMA training. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and squat down then back up. These can also be done in 30 second or more increments. Squats are a great MMA training method that utilizes the legs.

One-leg balance – Balance is key to mixed martial arts and can really help your body. Stand on one leg and hold this for a period of time that makes you feel the burn. This will also help you with balance which is very important for MMA fighters and MMA training.

Dips – You can do dips from a chair or couch. Place your hands behind your back on a chair and lower yourself so you work your triceps. You can lift your legs on another chair for a more difficult challenge. Tricep MMA workouts are great at building the triceps so you can throw and push off opponents.

Crunches – A very popular MMA workout is abdominal crunches. Just lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Put your hands behind your head and crunch your body up focusing on your abs. Abs and core are very important and should always be added to your MMA fitness routine.

Push Ups – Many people already know how to do push ups but if you don’t it is really simple to learn. Lay face down with only your palms and feet touching the ground. You push your body weight up, back down, then up again. A good strategy is to do these for 30 seconds then rest 30 and repeat. If push ups are too hard you can place your knees on the floor which lowers the resistance.

UFC Workout – 3 Tips For Designing MMA Workouts

With the popularity of the UFC – and mixed martial arts in general – skyrocketing to new heights, thousands upon thousands of guys (and girls) are joining MMA gyms and switching up their workout routines. It’s no longer about how much you can curl or bench press but rather, it’s now about how hard you can kick or how quick you can slap on a triangle choke when you’re rolling at the dojo.

With these new priorities comes new training demands and those typical bodybuilding style workouts simply won’t cut it for MMA. Mixed martial arts is perhaps the most physically demanding sport in existence. I’ve been involved with athletics since childhood and I’ve yet to come across a sport that matches the intensity of even an MMA training session – let alone an actual fight. That being said, here 3 important tips for designing MMA workouts.

UFC Workout Tip #1 – Train at a high intensity!

The UFC implements 3 to 5 rounds – depending on whether or not it’s a title fight – and each of the rounds last for 5 minutes. In between rounds, the fighters are given only 1 minute to recover and regroup. As you already know, the fighters usually keep an intense pace and you should always train for the demands of your sport. Therefore, you should perform plenty of high intensity interval training (also known as HIIT). Doing so will improve your cardiovascular efficiency and of equal importance, the interval training will increase your lactate threshold as well.

MMA Workouts

UFC Workout Tip #2 – Train for “functional” strength!

All of our muscles function together as a kinetic chain. We move that way and it only makes sense that we train that way too. So rather than spending your time at the gym performing isolation movements that aren’t sport specific, you should focus your efforts on performing compound, multiple-joint exercises that teach the muscles of the body to work together. For example..

Squats > Leg Extensions
Close Grip (Palms Toward You) Pull Ups > Bicep Curls

UFC Workout Tip #3 – Train the “rotary strength” of your core!

Watch any of those UFC workout “all access” specials and you rarely see the fighters performing traditional sit ups. Rather, you see them performing rotation movements with all sorts of medicine balls and such. The core (mid-section) has been deemed the “strength center” and it should be the foundation of your MMA workouts.

There’s so many rotary exercises that can be done for your core. Hitting big tractor tires with a sledgehammer is one of the more popular ones that MMA fighters do. Of course, not everyone has access to a big tractor tire and if that’s the case, you can do all sorts of other exercises with sandbags and medicine balls.

Why Choose MMA Workouts to Get in Shape?

Whenever someone wants to take up a sport or other recreational activity as a hobby they need to consider a few things first. They must acknowledge their current physical condition and not try to take on more than they can handle right from the start. They need to ease into it and use good workouts programs that will work their body to the fullest. For those purposes using MMA workouts is often the best solution.

Anyone that practices mixed martial arts will testify to the fact that it is a grueling and very challenging undertaking, which requires a lot of training. Furthermore, anyone that has ever seen an MMA bout knows that the fighters are in top physical condition. That is why using MMA workouts are highly recommended, because they can turn the average person into a lean, mean fighting machine.

While other training regimens focus on certain aspects of physical qualities these workouts will make sure that every one of those is enhanced to the maximum. First off is strength. What makes these exercises different is the fact that they will increase the core strength of a person because they focus on all major muscle groups. This is unlike other sports, like boxing for instance, where the arm muscles are the ones getting buff while the other ones can get neglected. Being at peak physical strength can guard the body against age-related diseases like osteoporosis, as well as enhance the physical appearance.

MMA Workouts

One key area that MMA workouts will improve significantly is endurance. The drills repeated over and over again will increase the cardiovascular conditioning, which in turn will cause an improvement in the functioning of the heart, the lungs and other major organs. Just like the increased strength, this will lead to a longer, healthier life.

With the repetition of mixed martial arts techniques comes superior balance and flexibility. This can have great real world applications for those that practice other sports. Furthermore, having these increased abilities can do wonders for someone’s self-esteem. They will show that they are able to commit to something hard and intense and see it through. Anyone that is able to finish such a program can walk down the street with his head held high.

If you are new to training never forget the importance that proper supplementation can play. For any new fighter I suggest a protein powder, multi-vitamin, fish oils, and a new category of MMA supplements called Neural-Adaptogens. The Neural-Adaptogens have been proven to increase levels of focus, and limit recovery time. These two things are hugely important for a new fighter!

The benefits of MMA workouts are multiple and more significant than the ones of other training regimens. However, they are very hard and require discipline and commitment. Fortunately, they can be adjusted to any level of skill and physical prowess so anyone can start doing them as soon as they want.

I do not reveal the top secret Neuro-Adaptogen supplement that I have been giving the guys I train on public pages. If you want to see the one thing that brought my training to a whole new level of MMA Success check this out. There you will learn the secret that brought me from chump to training with the pros:

MMA Workouts For Developing Explosive Power

Whether you are just wanting to be in the best physical shape you can possibly be in or you are looking to develop explosive power to unleash in the octagon as a pro mixed martial artist you need to develop new high intensity MMA workouts that train your muscles, nerves and tendons in the right way.

Just hitting the gym and pumping weights or doing the same old routines in your martial arts classes is not enough. This will only bring you up to the same level as those you are training with. How many of your martial arts class mates or spotting partners at the gym are pro MMA fighters? Even if they all are you are still going to have to take your MMA workouts to the next level if you want to be the best and have a shot at a UFC title belt!

Developing truly explosive power is key to becoming a number one contender in the octagon or even just be being able defend yourself effectively in the street. You can build explosive power through a combination of plyometric exercises, martial arts drills and gym workouts. However not just any exercise or workout will do. You have to develop explosiveness. This means training the mind as well as the body you must be able to tap those adrenaline stores at will when you need them and have your muscle memory developed to elite highs that can fire off with instantaneous combos when you see an opening on your opponent.

MMA Workouts

In order to build the mental capability you need to explode on demand you need to incorporate specific drills into your MMA workouts to train yourself. This can be done with interval training when doing cardio. In the gym this is safest done when using cable machine or free weights in order to avoid injury and in martial arts training it can be developed by incorporating short sparring rounds of 1 to 2 minutes in which you go all out. However it is even better if you can dedicate one day a week to developing explosive power and incorporate all three aspects of your training. What you eat on these days is also crucial. Avoid large and heavy meals. Main meals should consist of almost 100% protein and be eaten right after workouts while snacks should consist of light energy foods like almonds, bananas and cucumbers.

Sample workout:

* 2 mile run using burst of all out sprinting alternated with fast walking.

* 15 minute plyometric warm up including jumping squats lunges and push ups.

* 15 minutes of heavy bag workout or sparring. 2 minute bursts of all out punches with 1 minute breaks.

* 20 minutes of resistance training either in the gym or at home with free weights. Include; pull ups, punches with weights including hammer fists and hooks, tricep extensions and dips.
